Why does Lara look like Wonder Woman on the cover?

Wow, if that's not Alex Ross the artist plagiarized Ross' work. I'm sure there is an exact likeness somewhere on the internet but for the time being:

Attached Image

What are they wearing? While Jor-El's headband is iconic, the rest looks like a mishmash of Movie colors with 90's armor plated arms. As established Lara looks like Ross' Wonder Woman but dressed like I Dream of Jeannie. The interior art probably gives them justice but the cover art, blech.

it makes no logical sense that Barbara Gorden is still in a wheelchair other than the fact that Editors and Writers want her there.

Barbara "Oracle" Gordon insists she stay in the wheelchair because she's "not yet ready". Yeah, I would say that's some sloppy silly writing. What is she waiting for, to walk again or another Birds of Prey series? This is a fantasy world that uses science fiction elements and she doesn't want to utilize what's available, because, yeah, she's ham-stringed by editorial decisions. In a recent Booster Gold story, Booster travels back in time to stop the Joker from shooting Babs. Instead, Booster Gold gets beat up each time (meant for laughs I guess) and Rip Hunter tells Booster you can't change time, stupid.

Now that I think about it further, her current condition makes sense. It is all about $$$$. Alan Moore sells graphic novels. Every so often, DC publishes a definitive Alan Moore collection. The last time the Killing Joke was published, it was recolored and sold pretty well. Even further back, Alan Moore's success and popularity turned this probable one shot into irrevocable continuity. Instead of just being some creepy and misogynistic Moore snuff piece, DC's staff realized 1) if we make it official continuity we'll make Moore $$$$. 2) The outcome will mean something Moore to our current readership and 3) years from now we'll still be reprinting this book, forever. DC even published before Killing Joke a one shot so readers then could identify with Batgirl before they crippled her. Nice, DC really sucked back in the late 80s. What is worse? DC didn't have any idea what to do with Babs after Killing Joke. Kim Yale was the only one on staff that cared enough to give Babs a second chance.

In the end, I suspect Clark got married and Pete and MJ got "wiped" for the same reason: multimedia tie-ins. The Superman books wanted to be in sync with the "Lois and Clark" show and the Spider-Man books wanted to avoid confusing fans of the Raimi movies. Since both those projects are history now, we see how foolish it is to let the cart pull the horse.

In Requiem and Rebirth: Superman Lives, the writing staff actually discuss this very same notion. I can't believe I forgot. Initially, Lois and Clark were to be married but instead thanks to the tv show, Superman was killed. After Superman returned, they were married to coincide with the television show.

Thats pretty close to it but the show was "serious"

I was almost thinking it was a special for Quest for Peace when it came out but I doubt they would have had that kind of promotion for a movie like that.

Superman IV debuted in 1987. Hmmm, was it the Justice League TV show? No, it came out in 1997.

Okay, using some google skills, I believe you watched

Superman 50th Anniversary Special 1988.

Green Lantern is in it.

This is available on Superman II DVDs but I never watched it.

As I recall, the show started the same way, only with Dawson...I mean, Clark being crucified. Too bad they couldn't lose the t-shirt for Lois as they did him.

Actually he already has that problem licked, with a variation on the "Jedi Mind Trick". Almost everyone I know says, "He's a good Clark Kent, but I just can't see him as Superman."

Ba-DUM-bum

Whoa, Lois with her shirt off is instant ratings. You probably shouldn't give Smallville's producers any ideas.

Producer 1: "Can Lois be topless while being crucified"?

Producer 2: "I don't think the @$%!&* at Standards will let us".

Producer 1: "Well, how about just with her bra on"?

Producer 2: "We already shot the scene with her shirt".

Producer 1: " What do you think Geoff, should we reshoot the scene"?

Geoff Johns: "Whhhhhhaaaaaaaaa we need blood more blood, stabbings, whippings, and a chainsaw"!!!!!

How will Clark Kent keep his identity and still be Superman? I bet you Chloe Sullivan becomes Doctor Fate and goes "One More Day" on everyone. Consequently, she probably will have to give up her identity and that's why she's not in continuity. It makes sense. Everyone knows something happened in Smallville but no one really remembers.

I was always hoping the Question played by Jeffrey Combs would make an appearance. At least he would have livened things up like he did voice acting on Justice League Unlimited.

Proving Smallville needed to end four seasons ago, Lois Lane gets crucified in season 10. There is nothing like a good old fashion crucifixion, fun for the whole family.

The final season ends with the Apokolips arc and most cast members returning in some form or another. While I rather enjoyed episodes and DC superhero cameos, I was taken consistently back by the level of violence, Geoff Johns violence baybay. Sometimes I thought I was watching a show directed by Wes Craven. It was distracting and more than little out of place. It is after Superboy and not Friday the 13th. Good story telling doesn't need excessive violence and gore to get ones point across.

Oh well, Smallville will fall into the category of most recent tv shows, good premise = poor execution and lasted waaaaay to long.

DC had their shot after the whole Crisis fad. That was their opportunity to start over. Now, I can't imagine Superman going through the whole "Another Day" scenario because frankly it sucks. I picked that frick'in Spider-Man comic up and promptly placed it back down. Does DC really want to emulate another crappy Marvel idea? It would have been easier just to divorce Peter and Mary Jane. Then later, they could return to the status quo or Peter could marry the true love his life Gwen Stacy.

For the record, I like Superman married. No one complains about Reed and Sue being married so why is Superman's marriage such a hot topic? I wouldn't mind seeing a Super-baby either but that's just me.

I tend to agree her costume isn't Image Comics. Look at Bolland's cover from 90s Wonder Woman. That was Image Wonder Woman or Stripper Wonder Woman. Take your pick. WTH, how degrading was that costume for a female cultural icon? Did anyone here read those comics?

I don't know. Lets see DC recently depowered Superman?, replaced Batman, and now Wonder Woman has a new costume and history/purpose. Wait ago DC, I thought it was 1994 for a second.

Cutting out all the bull, I have a suspicion this is Wonder Woman's upcoming movie costume. Think about it.

Of course people are talking, good publicity I guess:

Premise: What if the 70's era had its own "Destroy All Monsters" or "Final Wars" before Toho pulled the plug? I tried to use as much cut/alternate footage as I could. My hat goes off to whomever can spot everything. Edited & Designed by Scott Lister, July 2010.

This totally happened. Superfriends had quite a few Safety and Health Tips bumpers before the internet popular GI Joe PSAs. Usually, they rotated heroes or had the Wonder Twins. I'm pretty sure, you can check these out on the All-New Super Friends Hour dvds.

Doubtless some readers had already asked about it, and it certainly seems logical; if Superman is really worried about potential danger to his wife, then why not marry an invulnerable girl? More than that, if the preservation of Krypton's legacy is so important, what's more logical than a male survivor and female survivor getting together to propagate the species?

Didn't Lois become a Super Heroine several times in Silver Age comics? I thought the recent All-Star Superman handled this nicely. Superman loves Lois and gives her the opportunity to become Super Woman. The movies proved Superman could also lose his invulnerability. Plus, if Superman wanted to continue Krypton's legacy, he could also marry a Kandorian. He wouldn't necessarily need to marry his first cousin. Anyways, I see Superman marrying for love and not for some drive to continue Krypton's legacy.

QUOTE (carmine @ Aug 28 2010, 11:30 PM) *
My understanding is that the "ban" on cousin marriage was started by the catholic church (and carried over by the protestants i guess). Most couuntries that were never catholic never had a problem with cousin marriage (hey if this is wrong don't blame me. I read it in a book). Were Kryptonians Catholic? I assumed they were more Jewish then anything else??!!!

I always thought in the Torah first cousins were a no no.

I didn't know these movies were remakes. Pfftt, shows what I know.

Forrest Gump (1949)

The Empire Strikes Back (1950)

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1951)

The Avengers (1952)

Ghost Busters (1954)

The original cut of Gone with the Wind was well different than it's theatrical release.

Gone with the Wind with Vampires (1939)

Not in MY world, Michael! Not in YOUR world, either, it seems! smile.gif

Our heroes knew how to be serious without being grim, and even Batman could crack a joke and laugh at appropriate times!

Chew on THAT, modern comicbook writers! wink.gif

In all honesty nothing creeps me out more than the Joker frowning. There was a graphic novel starring the Joker with Graham Nolan pencils. I remember how the Joker frowned a few times and really looked expressive and quite scary. You lose much when the Joker is grinning all the time.

A couple years ago, during or after the whole 52 fiasco, readers were upset Batman was smiling. I mean seriously I thought I was complainer.

DC let how superheroes smile! Make them look happy and appealing. It isn't difficult. See --------------------------------------> smile.gif

why everyone jumps on Apokolips =when it could be apocalypse? Like ever week on Supernatural??!!

and as far as I know Suicide Squad were those poor hapless WW2 chaps who drop on Dinosaur Island in every issue of Star Spangled War Stories -- not supervillains

and The Losers are Johnny Cloud, Capt. Storm, Gunner & Sarge NOT Johnny Storm and The Comedian wink.gif

Here is a bet. He will return through Green Arrow.

Geoff Johns says so.

One of the first comic book series I read through was John Ostrander's Suicide Squad. I couldn't pass them in the quarter bin. While not a perfect series, Suicide Squad had plenty of character moments, intricate story lines, tons of DC history, the mad pie man, and the death of Grant Morrison. I suspect most modern DC writers attempt to copy the "feel" of Suicide Squad but are unable. Would I read through Suicide Squad now? Probably not because it is a depressing series; most 80's series are. I guess everyone was listening to Morrissey.

Would I read Brave and Bold's Suicide Squad? Yes, if the books weren't worth a small fortune. I'd also read the Losers and Secret Six, not the abhorrent modern DC rewrites. Maybe they'll show up on Batman Brave and Bold. There, they'll be written with the best intentions.

Last night, I caught most of Checkmate. Let be the first to say, I never liked Greg Rucka's re-imagining of Checkmate and especially Amanda Waller's inclusion as the White Queen. Waller was handled much better in Justice League. Although, imagine my surprise last night when Pam Grier walked in as Waller. That was pretty cool.

Then I found out about Absolute Justice, shows you how out of the loop I am. All things considered not a bad episode but your criticisms are valid. The costumes didn't look right and Hawkman must have gone to Christian Bale's Acting School For Superheroes. I hear Cookie Monster's on sabbatical but Animal's filling in this semester.

Geoff Johns wrote his standard bloody deaths and Superman worship. The latter makes one want to laugh. Seriously, we don't have to know how great Superman is every minute. We know by his actions. Anyways, Star Girl was dead on and Johns emphasized JSA's family of superheroes motif. After the Zod Clone Kandorian storyline, it appears Apokolips is coming. I just hope casting hires Michael Ironside to voice Darkseid again, chilling.

Oh yeah, before I forget, Lex Luthor is alive.

He's gone otaku on us

To be sure, I've been a Godzilla fan since I was four years old. As a kid what wasn't to love? Giant monsters fighting each other as helpless man runs for cover. The great thing about the last five years is we can watch Godzilla movies widescreen and in Japanese. It's like watching them for the first time, no dub or crop. Suffice to say, I've watched as much as I am able. Next on my list is Icons of Sci-Fi: Toho Collection.

In regards to Otaku, sadly I've been overcome by my friends. They broke me down. I am hooked on anime's mecha genre, especially Mobile Suit Gundam and Super Dimension Fortress Macross. I am also enjoying Space Battleship Yamato aka Star Blazers. The funny thing is, I can't stand Full Metal Alchemist and Naruto. Go figure.

Legendary Pictures is the same production company behind "Superman Returns." Hollywood has already made one Godzilla film (with Mathew Broderick) and it really wasn't worth watching. As the article puts it, "we at Legendary are thrilled to be able to create a modern epic based (emphasis added) on this long-loved Toho franchise"

Here is hoping Toho's involvement will stem Hollywood's influence. I'd rather not see another CG Kraken or Sony Zilla but here's hoping it's good enough to keep Godzilla's franchise alive. Also again, I'd give anything for Region A Toho Showa and Heisei HD masters. happy.gif
