TVShowsonDVD.com reports the Ruby-Spears "Superman" cartoon from 1988 is scheduled for DVD release on November 3.
1988 SupermanThe show featured character designs by Gil Kane and scripts by Marv Wolfman and Marty Pasko (among others). A lot of fans remember it best for the "Family Album" shorts that ran after the "main feature," detailing the childhood and young adulthood of Clark Kent. This was the first cartoon to reflect the reboot begun by Byrne and Wolfman, so it features a "tycoon" Luthor and a "no Superboy" history for Kal-El.
That is great news! Superman 1988 is far and away my favorite Superman animated tv series. Plus it gives me an opportunity to throw away my VHS rips, which frankly were lacking in quality.
Psss, Superman is unprofitable. He is uncool and does not sell merchandise.
Just a thought, will WB ever finish Superman 1966 on DVD?
