Oh boy, Batman Annuals Vol 2 I'm all over more Silver Age Bats. I scored the first book online for $8, not rubbing it in just hoping for another low price.

Not too surprising, another Alan Moore reprint, how many time is DC going to reprint the same stories? Countdown to another Watchmen reprint three two one...

Superman vs Muhammed Ali is a must purchase. I just hope DC doesn't muck around with the art.

Rumor is Neal Adams plans to re-ink it. I think they're also going to put Obama in it. laugh.gif

Eight dollars is a deal you're unlikely to match, but even at cover price, the Batman Annuals book isn't bad with that high page count. It collects 4 annuals where the first (at the same price) collected "only" 3. It also happened to be my favorite comic collection of 2009.

I sure hope Adams isn't allowed to touch the Ali book, beyond maybe doing a new cover (which could be bad enough, given some of his recent efforts), but even if the whole thing goes in the crapper, I've still got my original.

Of course now that I've said that, Neal will start going door-to-door with a Sharpie looking to "improve" everyone's original comics.

I won it on eBay. The seller auctioned at 0.99 and only a few bid. I saved the seller just in case she posts something cool. I've got my fingers crossed on volume 2.

It's not really Adams' fault as much as DC for allowing Adams to re-ink and re-colour thirty years old comics. I don't see it as an improvement; most readers don't see it that way either. I'll never understand it.

Yes, you have to wonder how many Essentials, Masterworks and Omnibuses Marvel would be selling of, say, classic Fantastic Four if they'd allowed Jack Kirby to redraw it in the late 80s/early 90s with the "more evolved" style he had at that stage of his life.

As far as I'm concerned, it's like drawing a mustache on the Mona Lisa: I don't care if you're Michelangelo, it's still wrong.

Ummm.. How is it that Superman #700 is coming out AFTER Batman #700? Didn't Superman #1 come out over a YEAR before Batman #1?

I'm trying to wrap my brain around this puzzle, but can't figure it out! unsure.gif

And I didn't see too much older schtuff solicited with these two. Any reason we'd really be interested, if not too much of a fan of current incarnations of these heroes? smile.gif

They've played all kinds of games with the numbers, what with reboots, weekly events and the like. Don't forget "Superman" missed a few issues during the post-Crisis/pre-reboot period when "Man of Steel" was on the stands, then when it returned it was changed to "Adventures of Superman" for several years (allowing the numbers to keep ticking up, albeit under a new name) so they could give Byrne a "Superman #1" of his own, then it reclaimed the original title a few years ago and continued the original numbering, counting the progress made while "AOS".

Like most things in the modern Superverse, it's confusing.

Back to Adams for a moment, it looks like he's jettisoned Frank Miller for his new Batman project in order to write it himself. I would greet this as great news except in the interview where he confirms it, it's hard to follow any sentence that comes out of his mouth. Still, no Miller + new Adams art probably means I'll pick up at least the first few issues.

Also, Adams apparently is taking credit for the success of the recent Batman films and anything else that's gone well for the character lately. So if nothing else, he's keeping the spirit of Bob Kane alive and well in the "swelled head" department.

To paraphrase Philip Frye on the subject of Star Trek: "Superman comics...you know...guy in a red cape...flies...700 issues, about 150 of them good?"
