Super-Heroes Summer Reading Club
I learned to read using Superman’s comics, so it’s comforting to know the tradition is still alive and kicking (sort of). He is still inspiring kids to read.
In this politically correct day and age, when I have seen kindergartens, etc. in my own city ban super-heroes as role models for play, it is neat to see something like this.

Just in case some of you on the other side of the planet are scratching your heads, yes, it actually is summer here, and @#$%& hot too!

That’s a charming photo, Aldous. We have the same trouble here in the US, with schools deciding what kids can play and what they can’t.
First to go was dodgeball, for obvious reasons. Then anything else where teams might be chosen, then “tag” because someone’s feeling might be hurt when they’re “it.”
At this point we’re down to teacher-supervised relay races, which means kids are officially no longer allowed to use their imaginations or creativity even on the playground.
In a bizarre coincidence, homeschooling is getting very popular. Also, strangely, in a climate where kids are not allowed to run and play we have mysteriously developed an epidemic of childhood obesity. Go figure.
